The Thrashers wasted no time making their presence felt when they struck for four first inning runs in their opener with the Pirates on their way to a 6-3 win.

The Thrashers (1-0) were paced by a strong outing from starting pitcher, Dustin Mitchell, who tossed three scoreless inning before giving way to the bullpen. Mike Neagle, earned the save by recording the game's final eight outs without allowing a run.

The Pirates (0-1) refused to go quietly and used a three run 4th inning to cut the Thrashers lead to 4-3, but couldn't capitalize on any scoring opportunities late. They will look to bounce back next week when they face the Marlins (0-1).
